Cristine Reyes and Isabelle Daza Open Up About Past Feud

Real-Life Tension Behind “Tubig at Langis”

Actresses Cristine Reyes and Isabelle Daza revealed that their on-screen conflict in the 2016 series Tubig at Langis reflected real tension behind the scenes.

The two stars shared their experiences during an episode of The Sexytime Podcast, hosted by Isabelle and her sister Ava. They discussed how misunderstandings and personal struggles caused friction while filming.

Cristine Reyes Admits She Was Not Ready to Work

Cristine Reyes explained that she faced personal challenges at the time. She had just given birth and felt unprepared to return to work.

“Feeling ko that time hindi pa ako ready mag-work pero I can’t say no,” she admitted.

She also shared her frustration about being assigned to an afternoon show instead of primetime.

“So bwisit din talaga ako.”

These factors contributed to her emotional state on set.

Differences in Personality Led to Misunderstandings

Although they now laugh about the past, Reyes recalled how their differences created tension. She perceived Daza as having “mean girl” energy during filming.

“Ako, galing sa simpleng buhay and all, so kapag darating ako sa set, I have to greet everybody. Si Isabelle, iba siya sa akin, sosyal. ’Yung time na ’yun ‘It Girl’ siya, so parang nag-e-expect ako na magiging friendly siya pero meron siyang dating na… hindi man lang nag-hi […] porket ‘it girl’ siya, porket sikat na kasi siya,” she recalled.

On the other hand, Isabelle Daza clarified that she did not realize how others viewed her behavior.

“I wasn’t aware of that, kasi si Mama Jun, ‘yung assistant ko, she would always tell me, ‘Belle, greet ka diyan sa director. Belle, puntahan mo ‘yung producer.’ Hindi ako sanay to come on the set and greet everyone, I don’t know why,” she explained.

Intense Scene Turned Into a Real Fight

The tension escalated during emotionally heavy scenes. According to Reyes, she struggled with Daza’s performance at the time.

“Pagod na pagod ako kay Isabelle non […] Sorry, iba kasi talaga ‘yung background namin. Magaling ako mag-tagalog, ito bulol. So parang ako, ‘huwag ka na mag-inarte, tapusin na natin ‘to,” Reyes shared.

Their conflict reached a peak during a confrontation scene at the beach. The moment became unexpectedly physical.

“Hindi niya siguro in-expect na talagang tototohanin ko. This is my chance after how many months mo akong pinahirapan. Hahablutin ko ’yung buhok niya pababa. Talagang slam sa baba. ‘Tapos, sinipa niya ako, gumanti siya sa’kin,” Reyes recounted.

Daza confirmed the intensity of the scene and admitted she did not expect it to escalate.

“Kinuha niya ‘yung buhok ko and then, she dragged me. Sobrang lakas niya. I also didn’t know that she was going to that. Alam mo ‘yung acting. I didn’t want to break character. This is a big scene,” she said.

Reyes later admitted that the physical confrontation was real and fueled by built-up emotions.

“Totong sabunot. Totoo talaga ‘yung ginawa ko. Naipon na ’yun, Belle, ang dami mong ginawa sa akin na hindi mo alam. Hindi na lang ako nagreklamo kasi patay ako, it girl ‘to.”

From Conflict to Reconciliation

Despite their past issues, both actresses said they eventually reconciled. They talked things through and moved forward.

The intense scene even went viral at the time. In hindsight, they agreed it worked in their favor professionally.

Personal Struggles Affected Cristine Reyes

Cristine Reyes also revealed that personal issues influenced her behavior on set. She opened up about challenges in her marriage at the time.

“That time na pinagtatakpan ko pa, na hindi kami okay. Nagpo-post ako na parang happy family, pero ’yung totoo, hindi siya talaga umuuwi sa bahay. Pumupunta siya sa mga casino ’tapos meron silang mga girls na kasama, parang tini-table. Kasi meron daw mga clients daw, mga Koreans. Nilabas ko talaga sa kaniya [kay Belle], sorry,” she shared.

She was previously married to Ali Khatibi, with whom she has a daughter. Their marriage has since been annulled.

Pressure, Regret, and Moving Forward

Reyes admitted she felt pressured to marry after becoming pregnant. She now considers it one of her biggest mistakes.

“‘Yun ‘yung mistake ko… Nagpa-pressure ako sa society na, ay, hindi ako married, tapos pregnant ako, so kailangan kasal kami. Tapos inisip ko si Amara. Gusto ko siya bigyan ng family, buo. Wala, mali pala,” she said.

She also revealed feeling “underappreciated” in the relationship. According to her, her partner often forgot special occasions and made little effort.

“So nakipaghiwalay ako sa kanya. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Tanungin mo sarili mo, for five years na magkasama tayo, did you ever ask me out on a date?’” she said. “Fault ko rin naman dahil hinayaan ko ‘yun. But anyway, wala siyang masagot.”

A Look Back at Growth and Healing

Today, Cristine Reyes and Isabelle Daza reflect on their past with honesty and humor. Their story shows how personal struggles and misunderstandings can affect professional relationships.

More importantly, it highlights growth, accountability, and the possibility of reconciliation over time.
